Tuesday’s Best MLB Picks

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

New York Mets (+136) at New York Yankees (-162) | O/U 8.5 (-118/-102)

The Yankees were able to salvage the split with the Rays in a rare offensive explosion and shut down pitching.

Over the last month, they are 10-20 in their previous 30 games. Only the White Sox have a worse record in that span. The offense hasn’t been great; they are 28th in batting average (.225). The pitching has been worse with a 5.39 ERA that ranks 29th in the league.

Luis Gil has been much better in his last two starts, going 12.2 innings and allowing two earned runs against Boston and Baltimore. Hopefully, this will help him get revenge on the cross-town rivals, where he allowed four runs in 4.2 innings at Citi Field.

There’s no denying that while the Yankees have regressed, the Mets have been ascending. Call it the Grimace effect, or whatever you want, but the team from Queens is playing the best baseball of anyone in the five boroughs.

Since June 12th, they are 23-11, and the offense has been one of the best as they lead in runs scored, home runs and second in slugging.

Jose Quintana had a fantastic stretch with a 0.89 ERA in four starts, but that stretch was ruined in the final start of the first half when he allowed five runs to the Rockies.

Pick: Yankees -1.5 (+130)

Philadelphia Phillies (-155) at Minnesota Twins (+130) | O/U 8 (-110/-110)

The Phillies are starting the second half slowly, as they’ve lost three out of their last four games. They still have plenty of cushion as they hold a nine-game lead in the National League East.

That has much to do with having one of the best lineups and being in the top five in average, runs scored and slugging. It’s hard to say the pitching isn’t the best, as they have the lowest ERA and second-lowest WHIP.

They also have two Cy Young contenders, including tonight’s starter, Zack Wheeler. You expect him to give the Phillies a chance every time he takes the bump because he has 14 quality starts (out of 19) and has allowed two or fewer runs in 13 starts.

The Twins needed last night’s win as they were on a three-game skid. They ran away with the American League Central crown last season but the competition is much better this year with Cleveland and Kansas City having a chance at the division title.

Last year, the pitching staff supported a struggling offense, but the roles have reversed, as the lineup is in the top 10 in average, runs scored and slugging, while their ERA is 20th.

Simeon Woods Richardson is 3-1 this far into the season, so you would believe he might have missed time; nope, he has only four decisions in 16 starts. His problem is he doesn’t eat innings and has pitched into the sixth just once, which gives a lot of margin of error.

That will help Philadelphia, which is looking to rebound today.

Pick: Phillies Moneyline (-155)
